Funding & Volunteering so Far
Since convening the Coalition in July 2024, we have been operating entirely on a volunteer basis until last February. We are incredibly proud that we made substantial progress nonetheless.
With only one full-time volunteer staff member, we catalyzed over 1,700 hours of volunteer work from our community, grew from six founding NGO partners to ten, and added over 25 exceptional team members and advisors.
We launched the Coalition on December 18, 2025, via an Open Call for a Coalition for a Baruch Plan for AI. This was accompanied by a detailed 90-page Case for a Coalition for a Baruch Plan for AI (v. 1) PDF, featuring 22 exceptional contributors, and an 8-minute explanatory video.
Funding So Far
In early February 2025, we received our first $60,000 grant from the Survival and Flourishing Fund (SFF). This will enable us to continue operating at a slightly higher rate for the next 12 months and even hold our hybrid Harnessing AI Risk Summit this Summer in Geneva (albeit very frugally), which we have been planning for over one year.
SFF is the second-largest donor entity in the AI Safety and AI Governance space, with $30-40 million donated annually to dozens of NGOs. It is wholly funded by Jaan Tallinn, founder of Kazaa and Skype, an investor in OpenAI and Anthropic, and cofounder of the Future of Life Institute (the most prominent and most funded NGO in the space). SFF grant awarding operations are led by the SFF "Speculation Grantors" committee, which comprises AI safety experts with rare expertise and influence.
