4th CBPAI Newsletter - From a Race to AGI to a Race to Superintelligence
Dear CBPAI partners, team, members, advisors and newsletter subscribers,
Thanks for your contribution and interest in the Coalition for a Baruch Plan for AI so far.
Unfortunately, recent AI statements and announcements show that the race for AGI has turned into a declared winner-take-all, reckless race to Superintelligence, while prospects for international governance of AI are regressing - as we argue in our last blog post.
While AGI is a largely undefined term, Superintelligence is precisely defined as an AI capable of improving itself at an ever-accelerating rate. Almost by definition, Superintelligence means an AI far beyond any human's control, improving and expanding at a mind-boggling rate, which leads inexorably to an AI takeover of the world.
While nearly all mainstream media confuse the term Superintelligence with AGI, many industry leaders - who know its meaning very well - partake in such confusion, likely to pre-empt a public pushback. While the geopolitical and market forces behind this mad race are becoming ever more entrenched and harder to counter, our initiative becomes ever more urgent and needed, as it uniquely matches the scale and urgency of the challenge.
At this stage, ours may well be the only plausible last-ditch attempt before we are just thrown into an immense gamble of hoping that a future Superintelligence taking over the world will, for some reason, care for us.
If you genuinely believe we can still have a positive or key role to play, we need your help raising by February 10th, 2025, at least $30,000 or $3,000 in recurring monthly donations. Due to dire financial constraints faced by key team members who cannot sustain their volunteer efforts (yours truly), if we do not meet such a goal, we’ll be forced to place the Coalition on standby/freeze until we do.
